Kane is wearing the mask again, and Undertaker who used to wrestle as mean mark calous I remember his debut as Undertaker was so huge even though his original manager was brother love I think the biggest match of his early career was beating hulk hogan for his first WWE Championship. Although his matches with Yokozuna were classic he also had classic insane matches with Kane and Mankind. What I look forward to the most is his WrestleMania matches because he always delivers.

To me the greatest match I have ever seen not just by him but ever was at the very first WrestleMania I got to attend at Wrestlemania 25 with Shawn Michaels it had everything you could want in a match and it stole the show. Even though they had a great match a year later no match I have ever seen can come close to that match. It was so exciting, so nail biting, and so emotional. So if you ever get the chance check out their match Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 25 they have the full match on youtube.

Jedi Temple Philosophy:: Science and the Meaningful Life
Greetings each

It is a matter of either Doing or not doing . Since I left the British Army some 27 years ago I have seen a more and more 'Can't be bothered' attitude in people in general .

In order to do something that makes a difference it takes effort and that does seem to be lacking . Also with the current mood of the world in general, I think a lot of people tend to just shut themselves away in their own little world and try to avoid everything.

Jedism gives you that sense of purpose that drive to succeed to make a difference and help a fellow human where possible. The reward is awsome but it does take effort.

Yours in the spirit of Budo

Mike

General Discussions:: More or Less
Greetings Each

All though the text is based on martial arts. One can also apply this in ones daily routine we are often confronted with situations even when just arguing a point among friends, family or work colleagues

In the Art of Peace we never attack. An attack is proof that one is out of control. Never run away from any kind of challenge, but do not try to suppress or control an opponent unnaturally. Let attackers come any way they like and then blend with them. Never chase after opponents. Redirect each attack and get firmly behind it.

Yours in Budo

Mike

I've heard many metaphors and explanations for the Force, but never have I seen it compared to a song. That is an excellent metaphor and well explained. It reminded me of a vid I saw once in which the "Song of Earth" was played; it was (supposedly) the sound of our planet as it moved.

Force Studies:: The Cure and the disease
Personally I wouldn't worry about this. Only certain types of radiation are harmful. Light and sound waves are actually considered types of radiation; we need light to remain healthy and require sound for communication (exception for sign language and texts, both of which require light, and brail which requires neither).

My question, which would decide for me whether or not the Force's radiation could be a problem, is simply this: Is the Force ionized? If so it could be a problem, but given the number of people who connect to it with no apparent related problems I would assume it is not. If it is it may simply not be so ionized that it is a serious threat.

Personally, given what I know at the moment, I consider connection to the Force as necessary as a decent amount of sunlight is for the skin. Maybe I will suffer if I get to much, but I know I'll suffer if I don't get enough.

Jedi Temple Philosophy:: Jediism and Authority
My credit union has a prominently-placed sign announcing that they want you to remove sunglasses, hoods, etc., before entering their premises. This is so you can be identifiable to the cameras in case you rob the place, one assumes, and so you won't be mistaken as a person who wants to try. I don't remember, but I'm quite sure that the Department of Social and Health Services office also has a similar requirement, and for similar reasons. Yes, there are religions which prescribe head coverings. However, unless you're actually wearing a burqa, they seldom cover the face. I suspect it's the facial covering part that was the issue, and--as was pointed out--Obi Wan removed his hood indoors. In fact, as I recall, he mostly just used it, at least in the first movie, for hiding his face. And protecting it from the elements, which one assumes was not an issue here.

General Discussions:: Near Death Experience
There is an ongoing debate about near death experiences. about whether or not it is our brain firing off chemicals similar to a dream causing us to have the visions or if it really is the afterlife. In the name of science has any scientist EVER considered looking into whether or not someone that survived severe brain damage has EVER had a near death experience?

The whole point of the study....if someone was in a coma with little to no brain activity and nearly died or did die for a short time and had a near death experience...then....wow....it couldn't have been produced by the brain right?????

I've never heard of anyone that had severe head trauma having a near death experience though. My personal belief is that it is caused by a chemical reaction in the brain.

Force Studies:: Reiki can do no harm... or can it?
I am afraid i do not know much about Reiki to make an informed statement . but if it is not to unlike other energy healing methods. Maybe my experiences may help.
here are the dangers i have noted to the self and others
1.empathy.... being exposed to the dispositions of a persons moods can and will affect yours. in healing practice the moods are subject to change with the different sensations the person being healed may feel. thus it is important to adjust the self as well .. in practice is best to use the persons own energy to help them heal. but the fluctuations in mood and your level of empathy will affect your ability to manipulate the energy. if the person has an excess in energy build up in a particular area it has not been uncommon for that energy follow the path of least resistance. if that path just happens to be you, a lot of things can go wrong.
2.jewelry, some people are sensitive to certain stones it is important that if possible remove all jewelry and have the other person do the same,
3. isolation and quietness, it is important to be free of distractions..
Bertenelli's is a good idea. That's one we do like. We normally get that on new years, but this year we didn't have enough left over after Christmas. I'll sneak that in for a dinner drink and we'll make our own Baja Blast for the rest of the day. The Baja Blast is a (hopefully fun) experiment that we both want to try. Thank you, Master Scythe.

This year, I do not have resolutions so much as I have goals.

1. Work through that backlog of projects that have been building for the past several years.
2. Learn more about lost wax casting, and make my own Jedi Credit
3. Finish my write up of The Jedi Path
4. Finish my Kakyuu costume in time for NDK

Donating to the poor, giving the bum on the corner a few bucks, helping that old lady cross the street, helping an injured person or an animal, or just by inspiring people to be better by exemplifying civility. No matter how small or cheezy the task may be, they are still powerful way of helping out in the world either way you look at it. Just saying "please" and "thank you" is fighting the war against ignorance.

From your point of view it looks complicated, but be it that I also helped render the Temple logo, from my point of view, the new design is much simpler. Its hand drawn and more natural...its a line drawing that lacks the digital complexities and special effects of the original design. So, its much-much simpler... and more traditionally crest-like

And thank you Cdaae for the compliment **bows**

Dexter's Diner:: Which would you be?
I would have to say Near-Human...Sephi to be exact. They are practically identical to Humans aside from their pointed ears and elongated life span. If you remember from the comics, #53 had a Sephi named 'Fay', a powerful Jedi during the Clone Wars. Her ideas about the Force are about the same as mine, we look practically identical, and have the same attitude towards fighting and bloodshed. She was kind, considerate, and never walked a straight path. Fay was a wanderer, as I figure I would be - if I were in that universe.

With Ki,
Dina/Spooks

PS: here's the link to the wiki page on Fay:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fay

and the Sephi:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sephi

General Discussions:: "What Makes A Leader?" A philosophy by Juvehil Kae
Leaders are people who were once followers who had followed until they learned to be leaders. We all start out as followers; as I feel that “original ideas” are far and few between these days. Almost everything that you wear, do, watch, read, study, contemplate, and listen to, has been done before by thousands of people. Your name may be “original”, but not one’s personality. You’ll fall into one of two categories: 1. a person that people enjoy being around OR 2. A person that people don’t enjoy being around. Your personality is a fusion of many-many things that was once taught to you and/or that had inspired you by the actions and/or style of another person (or collective of people).

In your years as a follower, you pretty much sculpt and mold your personality and style, to your own personal perfection. Kinda like adding and subtracting chemicals from a science experiment until you find that perfect recipe. This is why “nobody’s perfect”, yet, everybody’s perfect to someone else. I feel that a leader is someone who loves who they are; not necessarily in a vein type of way, but someone who’s not afraid of what they wear, or what they feel, or what they believe in. A leader respects people’s opinions and doesn’t care if they are looked down upon for who they are, what they do, or what they wear. If you find yourself getting easily depressed or offended by others’ criticisms, then perhaps you are still a follower trying to re-sculpt a few aspects of your being. But, eventually, you’ll get to where YOU WANT to be. Being a follower is never a bad thing, as long as you are led to good places! Always remember that!!!

I dislike when people say, “be a leader, not a follower”, because you pretty much NEED to be a follower until you discover how to be a leader! It goes along the lines of when people are trying to talk themselves up to others saying things like, “I’m not fake! I’m real!...This is who I am! I’m real!”…Yeah, but what really makes the head itch, is that WHO is gonna sit there and be like, “STICK WITH ME, I’M FAKE!” Nobody’s gonna admit to being “Fake”!!! I believe that what makes one fake is when you have a follower who loves the masquerade and loves to be like other people so much, that they can never balance their collected and borrowed emotional segments to find their own identity. It makes sense. “Real” people are the leaders who can admit to once being followers and appreciating and loving others for inspiring them to become who they are!
The circle of life to me is a riddle..one that states that we will always to whence we are from i have heard it said that one must complete their circle to understand.. funny how that works as well as we get it all figured out time and time again only to find we are right back where we started.

Jedi Temple Philosophy:: Where’s My Bleeping Happy Ending?!?
Quote:

JediKaren wrote:

In Jediism, we are so focused on being a knight or a master, or powerful in whatever, we don’t appreciate the process our teachers put us through. We forget that being a Jedi is to find some joy in the learning and the doing of the joy. Reaching the title is just one tiny moment that is quickly erased with demands. You’ll soon forget about the one minute glory you felt after a year or more of struggles. You may be reading this to finish, but you started out reading to learn how this article is going to progress. So slow down and enjoy your training. You’ll be a knight or master or god someday. And when you do, you can never be that student again of Jediism the way you are now.

This is a good post and excellent reminder that the journey matters more than the goal. But with respect, Master Karen, I do not believe as many of us here at the Temple are as focused on gaining rank as you believe, or at least that is the impression I’ve been given. The general feel I get is that most are focused on their training, the knowledge and wisdom they gain on that path. Oh sure when it gets close to Knighting or graduation to Master people are happy because of it and focuses a little bit extra but that is to a part of the journey is it not? As for never being able to be the student of Jediism that I am now, well I can never be the student I was when I first joined this Temple.

That is also a part of the journey, I do not think many of us see it as the ultimate goal with our training to become a Master, but rather it’s like walking along a forest path.
When you are an initiate, you crawl on all fours along it, missing the sights around you because you need to see where you put your hands so as to not hurt yourself on sharp rocks and the like. When you reach Apprentice hood, you have learned to crawl without looking and so you can look at the trees, maybe focus on listening on the birdsong a bit. As you become Knighted, You stand up and walk, again seeing more of the forest that surrounds you, but your steps are unsure and a bit on the loud side, so you don’t see many squirrels and such, When you become Master, you have learned to walk slowly and purposefully, and can take in even more of the sights, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the animals in the forest. But seeing all that does not make your journey complete, it just allows you to journey onwards again.

Thank you for reading/

Beinir

Greetings Each

Thank you for your comments Aye Beinir I agree with you there.

Tempest San. Yes the book I am reading and whre I got all this from relates to one such Samurai. Munenori was the Shoguns personnel Trainer and was forbiden to engage in any live combat. It is said he was challenged by an up and coming Samurai who was regarded by many as being very proficient. He eventually met with Munenori and was unable to do anything against him. His visual stare was enough to defeat the young samurai .

Yours in budo

Mike

While I agree that the philosophical discussion is fascinating and absolutley worth talking about at length, I also feel that it is disrespectful to the OP to veer to much off topic, maybe the militant/peaceful discussion could be continued in its own thread where it also would be easier to follow? Just a suggestion.

As for robes, I ceartinly feel that they are of use during cermonies (weddings, knighting as mentioned by Kreic) but not for everyone. However, the cut of the robe should be individual and to the individuals personal liking and as such would be unsuitable to act as a unifying symbol.

General Discussions:: The capacity to learn
Greetings Tempest San Bows

I like it :), The capacity to learn as you say is in all of us. As the ego is individual some subjects will not appeal to one person and may seem fantastic to another.

Somewhere along the line of evolution, Man detached himself from the laws of nature and went on a different path.( now there's a controversial view if there ever was one lol )However with the correct balance of learning Ie Butchers ,bakers, tailors etc. The system would work quite well.BUT we are talking Human here..enough said on that.

Knowledge is like a pet dog in my opinion . It will follow you everywhere regardless of which path you decide to follow.

How and what the individual chooses to learn is important and whether that individual is prepared to share what he or she has gained freely .

Yours in the spirit of Budo

Mike

I wanna take a different approach on answering this one. Minus basic financial stress from time to time, and the usual bills, all of my troubled times are either behind me (and boy, they were many!), or ahead of me...lol...I guess you can say that everything's cool for right now in my life, its peaceful...but I know that troubled times will always be lurking in the shadows, and I'm always trying to be expectant and prepared...cheers to life...

Now that I have your attention, I'd like to mention this article by blogger Single Dad Laughing. I've been following his posts for some time, and he usually provides wonderful cultural insight, like in his articles "The disease called perfection" and "You just broke your child. Congratulations." This latest one, "I'm Christian, unless you're gay" seemed to really hit the nail on the head for a lot of readers. It appears to be changing lives by the thousands. He's been posting a few of the responses from both ends of the spectrum.

I highly encourage my fellow Jedi to read some of these posts, and share your thoughts on them. You can read some of the responses here and here. It's a lesson on living one's life that any Jedi could take pointers from.

Yoda's Den:: Powers and principalities
Gautama Buddha, May 9, 2009.

The descent into duality
How, my beloved, did all of this descent into duality begin? It began, as Maitreya explains, when a sphere had come to the point of ascension, where it could ascend and become a part of the spiritual realm. Where it had reached the critical intensity of light that made it possible to accelerate the entire sphere into the higher vibrations of the spiritual realm—the vibrations of unconditionality, of love. And yet, what was the condition for that acceleration to take place? Well, you see, my beloved, you had a great number of beings who had applied themselves in a very concentrated effort in order to raise their sphere to that level. They had made great efforts. They had truly worked selflessly, so to speak, on raising all beings in their sphere to that point.

But you see, even in so doing, some of them had retained a remnant of the separate self, thinking that by working so hard to raise up their sphere, they would receive what they perceived as some ultimate reward by God for their efforts. And so, it was a great shock to them when all of the beings who had been the forerunners for raising the sphere were called, and they were shown that the next logical step for them was not to enter the spiritual realm as some kind of superheroes – receiving position and recognition in that spiritual realm – but instead, their next logical step was to lay down their lives, their attainment, their self-awareness and give that momentum and self-awareness and attainment as the foundation for creating the next sphere that would start out as an unenlightened sphere—inhabited by beings with a limited sense of self-awareness. Thereby, the sophisticated beings in the ascending sphere would, so to speak, let their beings descend, and now they would become the ones who allowed the beings in the next sphere to do with their light according to their free will.

This was a logical step because in the sphere that was ascending, that sphere was created out of the beings of those in a higher sphere. And so, the beings who were now at the top of the ascending sphere were simply being asked to do for others what others had done for them. Many of these beings were ready to ascend – to shed the last remnants of the separate self – and gladly embraced this opportunity. Which is why the next sphere was created—leading to your own. You would not be here unless someone had volunteered to lay down their lives to give you the opportunity to have a sphere in which you could grow in self-awareness. Thus, it is only logical that as you come to having made maximum use of this opportunity, you are asked to extend that opportunity to others, my beloved.

Yet, there were a small number, among the beings that had the opportunity to ascend, who did not want to give up that last remnant of the separate self. So they rebelled against God’s plan. And they wanted to keep owning what they saw as a superior position in their sphere, which they believed they had earned, and therefore [they] were entitled to keep experiencing that superiority for a time longer. And so, they demanded to be exempt from this—to set themselves apart as their sphere ascended. And in so doing, of course, they automatically fell into the next sphere that was created. For they could not maintain an existence in the ascended sphere, and thus could only go into the sphere that was not yet ascended and therefore had room for the separate self to continue to exist.

And yet, these beings were not stripped of their attainment. And so, they did, indeed, come into the next sphere with a far greater attainment and awareness than the beings who were just starting out in that sphere. And so, naturally, they set themselves up as leaders—as precisely what Jesus called the blind leaders of the blind followers. Some of their followers actually having followed them from the ascended sphere where they had leadership positions. And those of their followers who were not willing to let go of their obedience to their leaders, they had to fall as well.
mystery school

Cypher & AMW, please refer to post 123 right above AMW's. The person who started this thread/class has not been active for some time, unfortunately. However, there are some of your fellow students who are reiki masters (myself included) who might be able to teach you a thing or two. Just keep in mind that online instruction is not a very good substitute for in person instruction. I definitely recommend finding someone in your respective areas to teach you & give you the atunements.

I joke, smile have a great deal of fun and try to pass that humour on to anyone I bump into. It just takes a smile.

When I'm teaching at my club..I really let loose. Welcome to the temple. Take a look around if you have not already. If you are looking to start training you need to start a journal here ( http://templeofthejediforce.org/modul ... bb/viewforum.php?forum=65 ). Just create a new thread for yourself. Introduce yourself a little more thoroughly and then begin posting your thoughts on the doctrine.

"After that start on the Jedi Code, Creed, 3 Tenants, the Vows, and 16 Teachings, the object is to write your view of each item in those areas and how you can use and incorporate them in to your daily life.

You can find these things in the FAQ section, the tab at the top of the main page that says "start here", I would also like to point you to the study downloads section and the Xoopstube section."
Master Scythe

Hope you enjoy your stay here and ask around to anyone if you need help.

May the Force be with you.

Zon Rii Zyx

Jedi Temple Philosophy:: Equality and the Economy: Jedi Perspectives
What would a Jedi's Perspective be on Equality and the Economy?
If this question was asked of the average person, the first thing they might do is gather as much data;either feed it to a computer or gather the smartest minds they could find, and form an answer.

A jedi when dealing with a question of such magnitude might first sit quietly in meditation, clearring the mind, and connecting to the force. After spending some time in this connection, the Jedi might ask the force what the best way to approch this question might be,then remain in the stillness.Whether the answer comes or not the Jedi has taken the most important first step.

After this then maybe the right thing to do might exist and maybe it will not.As a Jedi maybe our mission can now start.
What ever form that might take.

I personnally do not have an answer to your question, but I think that maybe it can be found in force.

MTFBWY

amysticsway

Jedi Temple Philosophy:: consider this
Greetings each

I like these sort of posts. We all have an opinion on past, present and future .

I tend to keep the past as a reference book. Childhood events and lessons can be passed on to ones own offsping and the progress thro' ones life. This about Gathering information and knowledge.Keeping all this at hand has helped me better myself as a human being and enables me to share those feeling which other people . Especially here .

IE from one of the Joseph Campbell lessons I had a look at The Myth I think . Talks of living NOW in this instant. The future we can sort of plan. Ie I plan to go to work after finishing this text...But will I ? lol I have no idea it has not happened..YET :).

I also believe sometimes you need to step back a wee bit to get a better view of what lies ahead.

Take sport for instance. A group of players may come up with a fantastic set of moves which get's them a score. With modern techniques the coach is able to play back those moves and record them.possibly try it again at some future game

All in all it has to be that fine balance. The harmony of the force . I agree we should not dwell on past misfortune but not forget either . It is all a text book,a diary a novel,a biography of a life which is not yet completed .

Ki be with you all

Yours in the spirit of Budo

Mike
Dexter's Diner:: Bad Feeling
Under the basic outline I could find online, we have a chance of approximately $375 in foodstamps for my wife and I along with another $200 for the mother-in-law if we apply separately. However it's unlikely that it'll work out that way so we'll probably get $536 total with her signing up. We'll see what happens. Hopefully she can set pride aside in light of our need to eat food. She's the kind of person that hates having to rely on things like financial aid.

EDIT: More good news, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend will be moving elsewhere. He got a job moving furniture and will be staying with his brother while he gets on his feet. His brother already has a secure job, plenty of income from multiple sources, and a nice big place with lots of food so they'll be fine.

Force Studies:: Preparation
You hit the nail on the head Tempest. Every fighter has a plan for winning the fight until he gets hit. The winners put more focus on getting back up and doing their best then the losers who focus on the pain of getting hit and being down.

There is a state of mind which translates to mean 'certain victory'(hisshou) This state is going into a situation knowing you have already won. All fear and worries are gone. You simply do. This is the state one aims for during visualizations. It means if you want a job, you visualize yourself finding one until you have that state. Then you let go of all your preconceptions, fears and simply do it. You carry that state with you throughout the day.

They say it's easier to get something if you don't really want it. It's because you are more relaxed and confident because you don't over-care about what happens.

My prayers and energy go out to your friends and the rest of their family.

*bows*

Greetings all,

I have with me a book that was gifted to me some time ago, and one that I am ready to see move on. I was really never able to get into the book, but maybe someone here can. It is Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters by Dick Staus.

If anyone here would like this book, please feel free to let me know, and we can arrange shipment of it. If you want some more info before deciding, let me know what info you are looking for, and I will do my best to answer.

Dexter's Diner:: If Clones could think
I don't know nearly as much about the stories as Master Grayson obviously does, but I am a gamer and have played many Star Wars games. I think the best game for insight on the mindset of the clones is Republic Commando; in which you play as a clone leading a special forces squad. You see the loyalty to the leader, that being whoever is in charge, and the loyalty to each other. I can't remember if that game ends before or after Order 66, but at one point the clones do obey the Jedi and help them. I think at one point the player fights alongside Obi-Wan, although it may have been a different Jedi...

Regardless of the previously mentioned details, other bits you get to see include the fact that the clones relax, have a sense of humor, have varieties in personality, make their own observations, their own assessments and judgements, and if not for the way they were raised would have a mind entirely their own. As the leader your character seems to be somewhat the strong and quiet type. The computer tech is a genius and his personality reflects the educated type. The demolitions expert is a big joker, very amusing. The sniper is quiet, serious, but also cracks a joke on occasion when he has a good one. Thinking back on it the personalities portrayed really reflects that of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Now I'll have to find my copy and play again.

Dexter's Diner:: You are the last person on Earth
On the first day I would probably be terrified, honestly. I would spend quite a bit of time looking for other people, trying to find some sign of continuing civilization. After long enough to give up I might set up some kind of beacon, secure an area to call mine and claim a house with solar panels, and then make sure my new home is filled with all the necessities; food, clothing, blankets, running water, etc. Following that I would stock up on game systems, games, and other enjoyable entertainment things to try keeping myself occupied.

After the first month I probably would have expanded my territory, shifted from gaming to inventing and trying to find ways to make up for failing luxuries formerly maintained by other members of the community (water system, plumbing, etc) as needed. Hunting and fishing would also be taken up due to what food is salvageable likely being bad. At this point I would most likely have found a few animals, assuming they still exist, to call friends and enjoy the company of so I'm not entirely alone.

By the end of the first year if I were still sane it would most likely be entirely thanks to animals and meditation. Life would probably continue with gaming, tinkering, and physical fitness taking up every day. At least currency isn't a stress factor anymore.

My goals would most likely be simple. If there's no other people many of my moral beliefs become moot so all that's left is concern for myself and the animals I consider friends. First priority would be to take care of them. Second would be to keep myself entertain and occupied however possible to ensure sanity is not lost. Third would be to ensure the security of my territory; weather-proof, safe from wild animals, and hopefully maintaining electricity.

A normal day would probably go in this order: Wake up, feed animals, eat breakfast, play games, eat lunch, play with animals, eat dinner, feed animals, meditate, go through physical fitness routines according to what I feel like doing, maybe have a snack depending on food supplies, get some sleep. A hunting day would be the same, except I'd leave to hunt after feeding the animals and be back in time to eat dinner and feed the animals again. Since I'd be active most of that day hiking around I'd meditate and relax with games in place of a physical fitness routine. Lunch would likely be packed to take along.

As much as I love seafood I have never been a fan of fishing.

Buddhist Perspectives on Jediism:: The Noble Eightfold Path
While it's true Buddhists in the place of Jedi would not have fit as well and probably would have changed the entire direction of the movie, it's not true that Buddhists are all entirely pacifistic. The Buddhists of the Shaolin Temple had the goal of ending suffering for everyone, not just themselves. They would go out and help the community. Unfortunately, bandits were attacking innocent farmers and it was in the Buddhists' beliefs that he should attempt to put an end to the conflict. Many Buddhists died and so Shaolin Kung-Fu was created.

The goal of Shaolin Kung-Fu was to end the violence without harming the bandit, the farmer, or the self, if possible. Primary concern went to the farmer who was in trouble as it was the Buddhist's goal to help the victim. Secondary concern actually went to the Monk, not the bandit, because if the Buddhist who was defending the farmer lost the fight he also lost the goal of keeping the victim from being harmed.

Considering this, Buddhists and Jedi do have quite a bit in common. We too would stand up and defend the innocent even if it put ourselves at risk. It's what we do.

Force Studies:: Hipnotic victims
There is wisdom in all of your words, and I see your point. However, I must still needs disagree.
If we define hypnotic influence as any kind of influence, then hypnosis in itself has no point. Everything anyone does has some consequences and influences those around them, because all life is connected and people instinctively react to the world around them. However, that is influence itself, not hypnosis. I believe that the term "hypnosis" should stay reserved to the medicinal (and in some cases theatrical) application of inducing a trance-like state to make the patient (or random volunteer in case of a show) more suggestive.
I'd hardly describe TV as hypnotic. Think of it as a book for instance: you accept the violence because you know it isn't real. While it is true that, if you watch a lot of violent movies or read a lot of violent books, you might get more accustomed to it and thereby perhaps more accepting of them. But in that case, it begs the question why would such a person watch/read such material? Obviously there was something they liked about it, otherwise they'd do other things with their time. So the ones that do enjoy violence in the media are no more influenced by it than what they already were.
And from my experience, not many people actually watch commercials: they use the pause to go get a drink, go to the toilet, or whatever they can do in those 5 minutes that they'd miss part of the movie otherwise ;)

But as I said before: I have seen proof that even masters of hypnosis cannot force you to do something you don't want to. It is not a Jedi Mind Trick, it is more like helping someone else achieve a meditative trance. You might do things you would usually ask "why should I?" without question, but never so far as to something you would outright reject, no matter how intelligent or strong-willed (or lacking thereof) you are.

*bows*

I love to get good discussions going and see other peoples views and opinions because it gives my new perspectives to look at. I plan to not only continue and participate but offer my assistance and guidance to anyone that needs it. Since joining the Temple I have found more spiritual enlightenment inside of me than I have in years. And it makes me feel full filled. And anytime I get recognition from my peers and superiors it makes me feel honored and accomplished.

Well said Master Nemo. All I'm saying is as Jedi we are able to tune into the true source of knowledge for answers to such questions, the Force. Yes, question the messenger if available. But why not go to the source that perhaps gave the messenger the message?

Very certain I do not want to eat this, but I would like to make a rootleaf stew now, as served in Empire Strikes Back, except without the meat. While I have seen a few recipes out there, I may make this one from scratch.

Thanks for the great story and inspiration. If it comes out any good. Reading the replys.
Greys, shadows, something about colors.
More talk about light and the absence of.

This is what I got out of Kreia for myself.

Help yourself, be a pillar of strength, before you help anyone else. This is not selfish. If you are secure, stable, you are more able. The better you are, the more of you there is to give. The Better off you are, the better job you have, the more wise you are with your finances, the more ability you have to get in a car and go places and do things for yourself... the more you can do for those around you. The more you can personally influence your enviorment.
Obtain the ability to do things for yourself, allow others to do that too. Let other people be strong, build others so they don't need a hero, they can be their own Hero. They can be an example too look up to and more people are encouraged to find more ways to do things for themselves.
Lik eat, like bathe, like not asking strange guys for 5 dollars in the car storage. (Is that a close enough allegory?)

That was what anything meaningful I got from it. The rest was a sub-intresting plot device.

Well, considering we ourselves physically are great sources of energy, and in physics, one cannot create or destroy energy, a good friend of mine posed a question regarding this at one point, when we die, where does the energy go? One would say it has to go somewhere, the simple fact of the matter is we cannot, and should not know, it's one of those things that we wonder about, but also makes life a bit more interesting. After all, movies arn't as fun the second time around.

Here's one of the most important things to check out on the Temporary site.

Once logged in, when you go to message boards, click on a message, and then click reply, you will see that there is pull down menu for editors to choose from.

You can choose DHTMtextarea which is most like the default in times past, but also there is fckeditor, tinyeditor, koivi, and others.

It would be good to experiment with all the editors from the pull down menu and see their strengths and weaknesses, and report back.
Do you play an instrument yourself? From your knowledge and the emotion you seem to have tied with the music it suggests you are musical yourself.

If you ever get a chance to hear, or even play any movie music, not just Star Wars, I highly suggest you take the opportunity. It will be a wonderful experience. The work you put in is grueling, but the end result of it is worth it.

May the Force be with you.

Lightsaber Construction Forum:: Lightsaber Forms
A great swordsman just isn't in your forms but in your mind as well. Its not all about knowing your forms, but how to use them. Many times in the films you'll hear the Master say clear your mind to an apprentice. The reason is because the more you think about the less likely you are to succeed in a battle. Your mind must be clear, so there for your form is smooth and simple yet effective.

So even though learning forms are important I tend to spend just as much time clearing my mind and meditating as I do with my forms and try and even it out so that way when I spar my moves are more fluent and it feels like the force flows through my body and shows through my moves.

Being angry is a natural part of life. No body can ever live life without once feeling anger. Sometimes it's just the mood set when we wake up.

Focus more on the days and times when your happy more then when your not. Think about things that make you smile or remember the good times and put all focus into them. It may subdue your anger even for a lil bit.

Focus on the positive not the negative and it may help you.

just wanted to clear up a mistake i made in the first post, originally he made this device as an antigravity device, however while he was tuning it, the Force that emitted from the device was discovered to disrupt the "envelopes" that held atoms together. just goes to show how dangerous this field of science can be. if he had been standing in front of the device when it became resonant, well he would have a large hole in his middle. the Forces released from the dissociation of just 1 pound of water, Keely believed would power the earths needs for a century (well in 1890) if it could be stored. extreme caution must be adheared to at all times. one mistake and i could cause the disruption of time itself......who knows what 12/21/12 will bring, perhaps it will all end due to someone experimenting in thier garage lol..........

j/k

We all want to be happy. But how many people understand that being happy like many other things require practice.

So many people think they will be happy when they get rich or buy a fast car or marry their dream person. But they don't practice being happy in the joy of the moment. So when their dreams come true all they see are the problems because all they have been practicing is seeing problems.

"I once was said because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." - an old Persian proverb

The original source for this saying reads:
I never lamented about the vicissitudes of time or complained of the turns of fortune except on the occasion when I was barefooted and unable to procure slippers. But when I entered the great mosque of Kufah with a sore heart and beheld a man without feet I offered thanks to the bounty of God, consoled myself for my want of shoes and recited: 'A roast fowl is to the sight of a satiated man Less valuable than a blade of fresh grass on the table and to him who has no means nor power A burnt turnip is a roasted fowl.'

General Discussions:: the intuitive self
I see what you want to say, but helping others for the greater good is what being a Jedi is all about. On the other hand, if one sticks his nose where he does greater harm then it is indeed disastrous. But that is why we have what you choose to call intuition and I call gut feeling, to tell us when to back off and when to stand firm. But in your wording, and this is what I take it as mind you, it sounds like you're saying that we should not help if we feel it to be a bad idea, but that is where we use wisdom to distinguish the rational thought "don't do anything that might bring harm to yourself" i.e fear from a gut feeling that you will make it worse.

"The batteries are dangerous? I dont really see how, especially as they're release later this year is meant to be cell phones and we know the regulation those things go through. I personally look forward to these batteries as I'd adore having this type of battery for both my phone and laptop."

I misused word dangerous, sorry. :D I meant that they will need to be improved because, as is said [wikipedia]:
" These will occur as the nanowires on the negative electrode are brought below around +0.8 V, where the electrolyte becomes thermodynamically unstable and starts getting reduced. The result will be a film made from decomposition products that coats the surfaces of the nanowire"

Especially last sentence. Generally it [film creation] occurs also in Li-Ion batteries, but in this [nanowire] technology it can be (and should be) reduced before the release. :]

Though until they were tested, we cannot be completly sure about stability of such battery. ;]
Noone knows what people will try to do with them. [maybe my thoughts are riddiculous, but i'm just trying to say that safety issues should be considered - i bet that ones who pay for these research are eager to give the product away to the market (general reason why some products have to be updated so much after only a short time after release)]

Hi everyone! :)

In this topic i'd like to ask people from non-English-speaking countries (or people who are able to use another language well enaugh to do:) to write the part of the text, which is down here in its phonetical form [doesn't have to be accurate] i mean:

i like to read would be: 'aj lajk tu rid' [in Polish] :D

I'm just curious [though not sure how many people besides me and Beinir are here from non-English-speaking countries] how would it sound.

The text [from wikipedia]:

"The atom is a basic unit of matter that consists of a dense, central nucleus surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons."

de ejtom ys e bejsik junit of mater det konsists of e dens sentral njuklijus serraunded baj e klaud of negatiwli czardżd elektrons.
[most foreigners have problem with polish spelling.. wouldn't it be easier to give them examples like this? Every polish letter/pair of letters is spelled like in english words i mean: CHarged -> CZardżd // charGED -> czarDŻ-D (dż = ge and d = d) - i don't know if You have a font that would allow You to see the letters :D]

it's like this part from in-English-written book for learning Polish language: "there are ś and sz in Polish, but only a man from Poland can see the difference beetween them". sh = sz. But ś doesn't have an English counterpart. :(

I hope that this topic will be somehow useful [for me it will - that's sure, but i mean - for the rest of us :) ]

1) both ways it would make bigger wounds [while it's not a Jedi way to torture, vibroblade should be a good weapon]
2) variable would be great but it'd increase the weight.
3) Too much for an ordinary man to get an energy cell. I am not good enaugh in electronic's to tell how much would be needed - it'd have to be like the first lightsabers with energy cells carried as a backpack.
4) the longer the heavier [also because of the bigger energy cell].. depends on a man, but should be about 1 meter long.
5) blade against a blade will make nearly no difference, but against the body/armor [for example leather] it will :)
6) i'm sorry - i don't know if i understood well: You mean a situation, when You vibroblade is no longer vibro? :D It doesn't have to be attached to the motor. Also as pointed out by others in this thread, should we not be accepting or at least try to be accepting of pretty much anyone due to our own belief system as Jedi.

Do I feel that Sith are inherently negative or disruptive people? No. Would I agree with those people who feel that Sith is a title for someone who wishes to identify themselves as some sort of 'evil'? Not at all.

My experience has been that most people who come to sites like this or our Sith counterparts elsewhere on the internet are not that different from us.

Heck, some of the Sith sites I have been a member of, there practice of "Sith-ism"...however you wish to classify it as a religion or philosophy or even something else...have very nearly mirrored our own beliefs and philosophies in all ways but a few key differences. None of which ever called for these people to be violent or mean, or to hate any type of people. Indeed, in a good many of the cases I speak of, were you to talk to one of the Sith on the street you'd not know them from one of us for their own sites have often spoken of treating others with a general kindness and respect, if only as a means of expressing how they themselves wished to be treated.

All of this aside...I feel that to exclude or to behave with bias towards Sith, be people who wish to join the site or in a more general sense, would do more to hurt our cause then help it for even though that most Sith I have dealt with over the years were not all that different from us, like us, they draw much of their belief system from imagery and symbolism found within a highly stylized and romanticized film series (primarily) aimed at casting them as the villains. Villains who often draw their powers from extreme emotions. While this fact doesn't cause most Sith to act or even want to act as the Sith from the films, it has lead to passion often being rooted into their belief system.

It is this passion, I think, we'd rather not ire against us for activity and membership have always been an issue on this site as well as infighting. On the internet, in a sea where we already have countless StarWars fan, media, and rpg sites to draw away from us...I can not see how we'd benefit by driving others away by inviting the Sith to have reason to smear us with propaganda. Propaganda that would often appear to be true due to the history of infighting if the infighting on its own did not drive people away; and this is all not counting for people who slip away simply because it is not their thing.

These are but a few of the beliefs that I have as to why we should allow Sith here and as to why, like anyone, we shouldn't even have to think about it until they cause trouble and we are forced to expel them as we've had to do with Jedi in the past.

I also agree though that this topic has been talked to death and serves little to no good by popping up again and again as it has over the years. There are so many other topics I feel we could better ourselves and the site with so its best to simply let this one rest and remain a non-issue.

The Art of Obstacle Removal [by Octagon]

General Discussions:: The Art of Obstacle Removal
An interesting article about the removal of obstacles in our life.

Full Story

One of the best ways to go faster is to remove the things that slow you down. This "obstacle removal" is an integral part of many agile methods including Scrum and Lean. Sometimes it is obvious where an obstacle is. There are a few small things that can be done easily to go faster. But to get going really fast, we need to have a deeper understanding of obstacles... and the Art of Obstacle Removal.

What are Obstacles?

An obstacle is any behavior, physical arrangement, procedure or checkpoint that makes getting work done slower without adding any actual contribution to the work. Activities that do add value to our work may be slowed down by obstacles, but are not obstacles in and of themselves.

Obstacles and Waste

Obstacles are the causes of waste in a process. There are many types of waste, and for every type of waste there are many possible sources (obstacles).

Types of Obstacles

Personal

Personal obstacles are related to us as individuals. There are several levels at which these obstacles can show up.

Outside factors in our lives such as illness or family obligations can become obstacles to our work at hand. These obstacles are hard to remove or avoid. Even if we would want to avoid an obstacle such as illness, it is hard to do anything about it in an immediate sense. However, as part of our committment to the group we are working with, we should consider doing things to generally improve our health. Good sleep, healthy and moderate eating, exercise and avoidance of illness-causing things and circumstances are all possible commitments we can make to the group. Likewise, we can make sure our personal affairs are in order so that unexpected events have the least impact possible. This topic is vast and there are many good sources of information.

Physical Environment

Obstacles in the physical environment can consist of barriers to movement or communication, or a lack of adequate physical resources. Sometimes these obstacles are easy to see because their effects are immediate. For example, if a team room lacks a whiteboard for diagrams, keeping notes, etc., then the team may not be able to communicate as effectively.

Other physical obstacles are not so obvious. The effects of physical environment can be subtle and not well-understood. Poor ergonomics take weeks, months or years for their effects to be felt... but it is inevitable. A too-small team room can lead to a feeling of being cooped up and desperation to get out... and eventually to resentment. Again this can take weeks or months.

Here are some guidelines on a good team room.

Knowledge

A lack of knowledge or the inability to access information are obstacles. A team composed of junior people who don't have diverse experience and who don't have a good knowledge of the work they are doing will have trouble working effectively. There may be barriers preventing the team from learning. Common barriers include over-work leading to a lack of time or mental energy for learning. With junior people in particular, there is a lot of pressure to be productive and that can often be at the expense of a solid foundation of learning.

Other times, knowledge-related barriers can be more immediate. If a critical piece of information is delayed or lost this can have a large impact on an Agile team that is working in short cycles. The team may be temporarily halted while they wait for information. Building effective information flow is critical to a team's performance.

Organizational

Bureaucratic procedures, organizational mis-alignment, conflicting goals, and inefficient organizational structures can all be significant obstacles.

One of the best sources of information about this is the two books by Jim Collins: "Good to Great" (Review) and "Built to Last" (Review).

Cultural

Sometimes the beliefs we have about how to work can become obstacles to working more effectively. These beliefs are often in place because they have been part of what we think makes us successful. Cultural assumptions can come from our families, our communities, our religious affiliation and our national identity.

In organizational culture, one thing I constantly see is a public espoused value of teamwork, but a conflicting behavior of individual performance reviews and ranking. This is cultural. It is also a barrier to the effective functioning of an Agile team. For corporate environments I highly recommend the Corporate Culture Survival Guide by Edgar Schein.

Dis-Unity

Dis-unity is one of the most subtle and common forms of obstacle. Competition, legal and cultural assumption of the goodness of "opposition" and habits of interaction including gossip and backbiting all combine to make united action and thought very difficult.

This is an extremely deep topic. There are many tools and techniques available to assist with team building. If you are interested in this topic, I highly recommend reading "The Prosperity of Humankind".

Removing Obstacles

The ability to identify obstacles and understand why they are causing problems is only the first step in removing obstacles. In Agile Work, the person primarily responsible for identifying and removing obstacles is the Process Facilitator. The Process Facilitator has several approaches available for the removal of obstacles. A process facilitator has similar responsibilities to a change agent.

Direct

Deal with the obstacle directly without involving other people. This can be as simple as getting up and moving an obstacle impairing vision, or as nuanced as running interviews and workshops throughout an organization to gradually change a cultural obstacle.

Command and Control

Identify the obstacle and give precise instructions for its removal to a person who will directly perform the removal. This can sometimes work if removing an obstacle takes a great deal of time, effort or specialized skills that you yourself do not posess. However, the overall approach of "command and control" is not recommended for Agile environments since it is disempowering.

Influence

Identify the obstacle and suggest means to deal with it to a person who has the authority or influence to get others to deal with it. This indirect method of obstacle removal can be slow and frustrating. However it usually has better long-term effects than command and control.

Support

Offer to assist and encourage the removal of obstacles that have been identified by other people. In many respects this is a very effective method. It can assist with team-building and learning by example. People are usually grateful for assistance.

Coaching

Train others on the art of obstacle removal including obstacle identification, types of obstacles and strategies for dealing with obstacles. Observe people's attempts to remove obstacles and give them feedback on their actions.

Creating a Culture of Obstacle Removal

Encourage and measure obstacle removal at all organizational levels until it becomes habitual. In many ways this is the essense of the lean organization.

Strategies for Dealing with Obstacles

I know right where my towel is.

I did not recall, however, that the 4th was Star Wars day. May the Fourth be with you.

Which is as cool as March 4th, which is the day you arise, and March Fourth.

Ah, how I love calendar puns.

Please forgive the interlude, and queue up for the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Towel Day!

Get this, funny story.

About maybe a month ago me and my friend booked a fortune teller to come to my house. We where talking for about a hour and she didn't focus on me one little bit until near the end when she said... "Your mother is going to meet someone called Paul... they will only meet ones, but he will make her laugh."

Maybe about 2 weeks later... my mother phoned me... "fancey going to see a film in town?" she said... turns out she ended up picking that new comedy sci-fi movie "Paul"... and indeed... he did make her laugh haha... strange?

-Juda

bin ladin was influential among his people this would only show that the world as a whole was not dynamic enough to be more influential... things would go as they are heading now only one less person to blame..
this would more then likely escalate as the world vibe is pushing blame so too would become individual vibes...
Tornados, Storms' Death Toll Hits 345 in South; 2nd Deadliest Outbreak In U.S. [by Octagon]

Force Healers:: Tornados, Storms' Death Toll Hits 345 in South; 2nd Deadliest Outbreak In U.S.
Let us remember those in meditation who are going through this ordeal.

Quote:

The death toll of the southern storms hit 345 today, making it the second deadliest twister outbreak in U.S. history, after the devastating storms of March 1925, when 747 people were killed in tornadoes that raged through Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. Alabama was by far the hardest hit of the seven states in the storms' wake. In Alabama alone, already 1,700 people have been injured by the storms, according to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley. The official state death toll hit 248, according to Alabama emergency officials. The National Weather Service categorized Wednesday afternoon's tornado in Smithville, Miss., as an EF-5, reserved for only the fiercest and most devastating of tornadoes. James LaDue, a meteorologist at the Warning Decision Training Branch, says EF-5s are worse than hurricanes and in terms of damage potential equal the tsunami that struck Japan in March. "It is capable of completely sweeping away one- and two-story houses, leaving nothing left but the basement itself," LaDue said. "It's also capable of turning vehicles into missiles.

ABC News
