An old thread with an old question. But it remains. Once a Knight is made, very much of the structure they had as Apprentice is gone. As a Master, it is my hope that some of what I teach is passed to the next generation. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't.

It's surprising on how many Jedi that we see in the films and books would actually fall into the category of Grey Jedi. I have been told that I fall into this category as well.

I've taken these before. This result hits up every now and again depending on my mood when answering:

You got: Jedi Investigator

Jedi Investigators are the most savvy of the Jedis. A Jedi’s alignment with the light side of the force often carries the perception that Jedi are genial or affable, but Investigators are often more discerning and suspicious. They mostly use their Jedi training to help them read others and prefer to work alone.

------------------

It is mostly accurate. I do prefer to work alone and there are days that I am not the most affable person.

Greetings!

Here is my vote/view on this subject:

Issues:
1. Staffing. How many members should be on the KM? Two.
2. Who should be on the KM? Experienced Knights and Masters.

3. How long should the position last? Given the state of the membership numbers: 1 Year.

4. Should Council members be eligible to serve on the KM? No, unless there is a shortage of members to be on it.

5. Like the current setup the way it is? Properly run, yes.

A. Allow Initiates to complete their tasks unhindered by Knights and Masters not in the KM? This depends on the definition of being unhindered. I believe that observing Knights and Masters should have the liberty to ask additional questions or request further information. Especially if they are looking at a possibly Apprentice.

B. Include a brief history of TOTJF in Initiate's KM Training? I believe a brief history of the Temple is a necessary tool for the Initiate to know. Somewhere in the training thread, a KM should provide an agreed upon history for the Initiate to read and ask questions of. This way, they have an idea of where the Temple and the membership has come from.

I concur. Life is a journey. Some legs of the journey are quicker than others. As long as you are learning something, you succeed.

Greetings,

I joined the Temple in October of 2006, but kept my distance for a while as an observer because I was unsure about this place. As I observed, I began to post and made some friends, Ang-Kyoshi among them.

Of course I have seen my share of ups and downs and Temple drama. Knowing that I helped create many of the policies and committees that we used over the years has a lot of meaning to me. Watching as things change disturbs me a bit, but the only real constant in this universe is change and it is something that I have learned to embrace...if not simply tolerate.

At one point in time, I was supremely active here. I was working on committees, training Initiates and Apprentices and even working to clean up many of our rules and policies for errors. Then...I fell away from the Temple. My voice, that carried weight, began to be ignored and ultimately went unheard. I tired of it and pulled away from Temple, despite my serving status.

I never stopped being a Jedi. I kept going and when I spoke and acted, it was as a Jedi. I never advertised what I was, nor did I hide it. In recent months, since election night in the US, I have come to be more open as a Jedi with daily posts on kindness and compassion towards our fellow humans. It is all I can do from my position with the reach I am given. I am a Guardian, I fight to protect and attempt to inspire.

For future Jedi or aspiring Force seekers, I would impart that you must always be learning and always be teaching and just being who you are. A Jedi does not have to be overt in what you are doing to help to help. People will notice or not. But it is better that people notice on their own by your acts and not that you have advertised that this is what you did.

Be a Jedi in every aspect of your being. Light will shine.

We probably never thought to have a history of the Temple as part of the curriculum before. Until you said it, I never thought about it much...probably because I lived through most of it. We have certainly seen some s**t, haven't we, brother?

The thing with history, though, is while we have a lot of good stuff, we also have some bad, and I am unsure of how much of that to teach...of course, that is probably hypocritical of me to say. When my daughter, for a year, went to a Catholic school and started spouting things, I asked her about some of the bad parts of the bible and the history that went with it. She didn't know it and the teachers were not teaching it. I said if they are going to teach religion, than they need to teach all of it, not just the fluffy parts.

So, in that light, and a totally different discussion, if we require a History of the Temple in the syllabus, than we need to discuss what to put in.

No one said anything about interference, Mike. The KM is supposed to be a revolving position, not a permanent one. That is how the originators/creators designed it. Trust me, I would know.

Let me give a small history lesson:

The KM was created in the wake of the original Council being disbanded. There were issues that I will not go into, but let's just say that was not helpful to any true members of the Temple. With the Council gone, the only position officially left was that of the Knight's Marshal, Master Nemo. He recruited then Knight Ang-Kyoshi Roku and myself to help create a system for training all the Initiates that were flooded into us that had nearly no direction. In the original doctrine of the KM, the positions were only to be six months and no one could serve two terms in a row. The KM was designed to be the first, not the only, people to greet newcomers to the Temple and start them on the path. At that point, Knights and Masters could take them as Apprentices. Subsequently, this lead me to creating the Promotions Committee, which was, of course, in charge of promoting Apprentices to Knighthood.

The KM was designed to operate as a separate entity with no oversight because there was no one to be the oversight except for the collective Knights and Masters (who's numbers also wax and wane on the day). Now, against my arguments long past, we have a Council again. And now we are acting in the best interests of the Temple. This is why this particular subject is up for discussion. We are attempting not to allow seemingly permanent positions in the Temple.

I hope that this makes things a bit clearer on why this is up for debate.

Our community waxes and wanes in the numbers that we have active. Only recently have I decided to be more active again. At least more active here, anyways. I have been more active as a Jedi on Facebook than I believe I have in years...possibly...I just needed a mission that could be accomplished.

In any case, for the moment, something I suggested in Council conversation is that the Council take a more active part and essentially absorb the KM duties until our numbers swell again to need them.

I do not suggest it lightly, as I am one of the creators of the Knights Marshall Program and pushed to have it remain an entity of it's own. However, the only constant is change and sometimes that means doing what we do not want to do.

Those are my thoughts.
