First off, sorry for the duplicate post! I have some trouble finding and following directions when I'm trying to learn on my own. ^_^;;

Hello family!

I'm Catalyst, a 30 year old male-by-convenience from Portland, Oregon. I've been struggling to find practical applications of spiritual studies for years; I have a lot of motivation issues stemming from a lack of real consequences for any my actions (both positive and negative).

I have driven off a lot of people with events stemming from Bipolar II and an undiagnosed developmental disability. The folks who claimed to be my family all left me when my life got so stressful from isolation that I started having psychotic fits. I'm hoping that finding a REAL apprenticeship somewhere will help with that.

My desire for real training in something like this stems from having dabbled in a large variety of arts. I've seen elements from Witchcraft, Christianity, Druidism, Reiki, Buddhism... Sometimes I have a hard time telling the difference, though, and due to the nature of my studies I have no credentials.

I heard of this site from Ace Venom and at one time had a deep spiritual connection with him (if you can believe that). I'm only looking into this now because I wish to build credentials and exercise the elements of the Force I've already found in other ways.

To those who would block me immediately simply because of who I am, please consider that having a mental disability is not a crime, and that isolation from all of my friends has made that way worse. I am sorry for my actions; please help me rebuild my life in a way that supports healing and fosters healthy relationships instead of destructive ones.

I started by writing my own interpretation of the Code; I would love feedback and other directions to look into.

Hello, and welcome :)

First of all, we're are several people here who have been diagnosed with this or the other (I am also Bipolar type II) so you'll find no judgment here. In fact, openness about mental health issues helps fight stigma and negative attitudes about people who have them, so you're contributing positively by being open about it. No shame!

You can begin by making a journal in the initiate section of the forum, found here; http://www.templeofthejediforce.org/m ... bb/viewforum.php?forum=65

Please describe yourself, your former experiences (no credentials needed, we just want to get to know you) and what you seek from the Jedi path there in your first post. Give us a chance to get to know you :)

That's how you start the initiate process. To complete the Initiate’s requirements for Apprenticeship, please complete the following:

Begin with meditating on and describing "LINE-BY-LINE", the Jedi code, creed, tenets, 16 teachings, & Vows in your journal. Take your time with this! It'll benefit you immensely to make an effort with the initiate work, because even if it seems basic, those are lessons and teachings that will be repeated in everything you learn here. It's vital to build things on a sound foundation. You can't get a great tower without solid foundation work on beforehand, to get all metaphorical.

Also, try to involve your own experiences, thoughts and work when you work with the doctrine. All of this helps us get to know you, and will be valuable when it comes to pairing you up with the mentor that will be the best fit.

You are not under any deadline to complete this aspect of your journal :)

If you have any question, feel free to ask them here or PM any of the Temple members. Also, you can check out the journals of other initiates and apprentices, no need to ask permission or some such.

Again, welcome, and hope you find what you seek here.

Force light your path,
Nira

Welcome to the temple Catalyst. May you find what you seek and feel free to ask lots of questions as that is what we are here for. We are all students here and every experience presents a learning opportunity.

I don't believe in 'normal' and everyone has issues to work on. The Jedi path is but one way to find a balance for those issues. Again, all the best to you.

Hello Catalyst and welcome!

It's wonderful to meet you. Your introduction reminded me of a poem about the solstice that says winter's darkness brings people together as we wait for the return of the light. If you think about it, our own collective inner darkness and lightness bring us all together, too. And if you can't already tell, we're all weird, so go ahead and let your flag fly, lol.

Please feel more than free to click and read and fire away with questions.

Welcome.
What you have in your notes is pretty well written, IMO. Please copy/paste it into your journal here in the temple, along with your interpretation of extended lines of the code, as indicated in Nira's instructions.

As we've discussed in text, via FB, and other places:
I will not be blocking you from growth here, or anywhere.

Due to our present circumstances, I will only be interacting with you on a strictly professional level, and I will be watching your growth closely here.

I sincerely hope you find what you seek here, and that you can find as much as a home in this place as I have over the years.

Hello Catalyst, and welcome to the Temple. I have read through your initial exploration of the Jedi Code. I really like your observations regarding peace being the balancing of emotions. I really think that you're on to something there. It is a great way of stating something that I believe is true.
Also, in regards to Passion, yet Serenity, you stated "When we can engage, disengage, and still have the same outlook, perspective, and opinions, we have strength of character." I was wondering what it was that you meant by that. At first glance it appears that you are referencing the idea that there is strength when we refuse to allow our opinions and perspectives to change. I would challenge this idea, and say that we should be willing to change our opinions when appropriate. That which bends and returns to shape is less likely to shatter.
Keep up the good work!!!

Late greating catalyst.

I can relate to the connection you feel with Ace. He is an amazing individual ho has a way of bringing out the best in people.

As for your interpretation of the jedi code. I absolutely loved reading your interpretation. Your definitely off to a strong start. I can't wait to read more of your work.
