“Nothing that is worth doing can be completed in one lifetime, therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing that is true or good or beautiful makes complete sense in any immediate context of history, therefore, we must be saved by hope. No act, however virtuous, can ever be accomplished alone but must be done with others, therefore we must be saved by love.”

--- Reinhold Niebuhr (June 21, 1892 – June 1, 1971)

I first heard this almost thirty years ago. Looking back on so many many things I did and lament to this day; I realized that it was only when I forget this lesson that I was open to the dark side.

Regret is heavy. It's too heavy for me to carry anymore.

Instead of my usual New Years resolution, "Try To Be Good", I'll keep this in mind every single day.

To all of you here at Our Temple that I have injured and for all my numerous sins; I'll not ask your forgiveness but I do hope to earn it.

In the end we are not judged by how much we love, but by how much we are loved.

Peace,

Br. John

The edit is only a title change. JHP

I am on my Christmas kick and feel moved to say this. We are on the very eve of our Temple's first birthday. I encourage all of us to look to that as a remarkable milestone and as such, forgive the transgressions and growing pains that have caused so much dismay.

We are growing and broadening our horizons everyday. I am sure the vision of this Temple has changed a great deal from the initial dream of it and dare I be so bold as to say it has surpassed all expectations of anyone who has been on board since the start.

With that said, let us not focus so intently on what has happened that was wrong, misplaced or hurtful. Let us focus on the joy of brother/sisterhood found here and as one of my favorite people here says, "embrace the difference" found in us all.

Peace be with all of you and I look forward to serving with you in the New Year.
