Djem So/ Form V: Shein

The Djem So also known as The Way of the Krayt Dragon, or The Perseverance Form is recognized as canon by the last Jedi Council for lightsaber combat. It is the 5th of 7 forms. It was developed by practitioners of Form III: Soresu who felt that the defensively-minded form would extend time spent in combat by forcing its users to wait for an opportunity to strike rather than create their own openings. Form V counter- strikes following power attacks and defensive manuevers.

Form V is more adept at blocking, whereas Djem So is designed for lightsaber combat. Both Shein and Djem So were designed to use an opponent's attack against them. Although some Jedi felt that Form V: Shein encouraged aggression and domination, that never stopped other Jedi from practicing and using it.

Form V was developed prior to the Great Sith War in 4,000 BBY. It was used during he Jedi Civil War, New Sith Wars, Clone Wars and continues to this day. Like many lightsaber forms it found use for both Sith and Jedi. Practitioners of Form V/ Djem So include both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, Aayla Secure, Plo Koon, Ulic Qel-Droma and famous Sith lord Darth Bane.

Here is the common stance of this form shown here by both Anakin Skywalker and Aayla Secura. The stance is both an attack form and a defense form. It keeps the Jedi ready in case their enemy attacks quickly.

These are all pictures from battles which Form V was used. So if you wish to practice at home you have a better understanding of what exactly the form is and how it is used in battle. I intend to post more regarding this form and give more techniques, this is just the basics.

Its been a while since I read about the different forms. Wasn't Form V more about brute strength. A little, or am I mistaken?

Form V was a more agressive style that focused on one's strength but it also focused on using your physique with your fighting. But I put down all the information at the opening of the post.

Looks good so far, but I thought Shien was the defensive form used against blaster fire?
Or am I mistaken and read something wrong on wookiepedia?

Good work though, I look forward to reading more.

That is one of the forms on what it's used for but Anakin liked it and chose it as his primary form because it's more then just a defense form it's a great position for an attack form as well. Anakin liked the ability to be able to deflect a blaster or stand toe to toe with a Sith no matter the occasion and this form allows you to defend well.

It is also gives the user a opportunity for a quick aggressive attack for which Anakin was known. And even though Luke was never familiar with the various lightsaber forms or at least not during the start of his training he also fought with this form because it just ran natural with him.

Good work Arigorn, A jedi's form of combat is an extension of himself.. look @ the surnames of the saber arts they give you an idea as to what type of person/jedi they areby there form of combat. Personally for me right now form 1. The Determination form suits me due to my lack of formal training (in a martial arts school setting that is) however in the end I feel that that I may end up practicing all the arts because of my bull headedness & that lovely perfectionism I have a triple dose of..

Thank you Duro *Bows* I am going to attempt to deliver more information and instructions on the form later this week to continue giving anyone who decides to practice a better understanding of how to do the form properly. I will include Youtube videos and any proper foot work or movements. Budo has done a very good job on his and I think I'm gonna try something like that as well.

I found this video on youtube. I watched a few of the Form V: Djem So videos and I feel this was the best one that not only describes the technique and its practitioners but has a variety of photos of the form used in various ways.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfQOV_5re-w

I will continue to find more helpful information regarding this form.
