Deescalation questions for those with more experience than I have (preferably for those in law enforcement & security roles, as I primarily have had careers in customer service):
What are some examples of times that you've had tough situations that you were successfully able to deescalate? What happened (no names please)? How were you able to deescalate it? Any tips you might have to give would be helpful.

A reply I've already gotten through other channels that seems to be accurate:

I've found the best way is to change a persons focus by asking them a question that takes them out of what they are doing and has them focus on something else.

Say a pair of my friends are fighting. Asking and getting them talking about what attracted them to each other in the first place can bring about a change in focus and mood.

For others it would be talking about sports. For others lately it's been getting them to share their opinion about President Trump. The key is not voicing you opinion but listening to theirs and asking questions to show you're interested in their opinion. Also in being honest so you don't come across as being insincere. Most people can tell the difference.

Verbal Judo is a good video also the series called, bullet proof mind, is good on how to handle stress.

As Master Octagon stated above. Often the first step is breaking or redirecting the person's (or people's) focus.
