Hi there. My name's Roger and I guess I'm a new initiate at the Temple of the Jedi Force.

I'm 22 years old and I want to become a Jedi. My reasons for wanting to become a Jedi will be explained in this post.
As I said I'm 22 years old and just getting started in life. I've been living on my own for about 18 months now and next October I will be moving even further away from my family. I have multiple disabilities: autism, dyspraxia, and Tourette's syndrome for starters. Because of this I've suffered a lot of bullying and discrimination from young childhood to the present. On top of that I have a variety of mental health conditions (major depression, generalized anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and a severe eating disorder I can't seem to shake.) All of these things have been holding me back my entire life. Because of these things I have struggled with everything from physical health to maintaining employment and making friends. I don't say this out of a need for pity but because it is a large part of what is driving me to become a Jedi.

You see despite all of my disabilities and disadvantages I have one blessing that most people don't have at my age. I know with crystal clarity and total certainty what my calling is. I am meant to be a warrior. When I say warrior I mean that in the literal sense of someone who is skilled in the use of violence and willing/able to use their skills to protect the vulnerable. However having the skill and willingness to use violence in defense of the innocent is only one portion of being a warrior. every aspect of a warriors life should be defined by their calling-- I divide it into thirds. One third of a warriors life is developing their martial abilities (from unarmed combat, to marksmanship to military strategy/tactics). The second third is dedicated to self improvement and spirituality. A warrior should never stop trying to better themselves physically (nutrition and fitness, mentally (knowledge, logic and analytical ability etc.) and spiritually (wisdom, self control, kindness, compassion, empathy, etc.) Finally is service-- most warriors will never serve through violence (though they must be willing and able if the need arises) but all warriors will serve in other ways. Helping your elderly neighbor by picking up her groceries is as much the act of a warrior as shooting the man trying to rape her.

So far I'm an infant in all those areas. My martial abilities are non existent. I own a pistol but have no training in it and I dont intend to practice until I've had training to avoid developing bad habits. Even once they get training, I don't intend to get my concealed carry permit until I'm convinced that I've developed a maturity and level responsibility necessary To carrying a loaded gun in public. I have no training in Unarmed fighting either. At this point the only marshall area I have skill is mental because I have done a lot of research and study on topics related to or from strategy to military history to the ethics of war. My physical fitness from exercise and dietary habits are all abysmal and my mental health issues and autism negatively affect every area of my life, and well, I'm willing and able to serve but I'm pretty much a shut in so my opportunities are few and far between. I seek to improve my martial abilities to an expert level, I wish to get in shape and improve my nutrition, improve my empathy and compassion and kindness, and increase my spirituality: my connection to the Force. The absolute truth is at this point I'm not sure I do believe in the Force but I know Jediism is the path for me. I have decided to live as though the Force were real in the hope that it is, in the hope that I start to believe it is. At the end of the day there is one reason and one reason only that I wish to become a Jedi. I want to dedicate my entire life to serving others: to protecting the vulnerable (with physical violence if necessary) and to helping those in need (whether that be helping a child with her homeowork, or volunteering in a soup kitchen. Dedicating my life to service requires becoming the best version of myself. Right now I am not the best version of myself. I am hoping the Jedi way can help me to become the best version of myself. That is all. Thank you for reading and I look forward to my journey here.
