A few thoughts on meditation…

Since a young age, most of us are used to being busy all the time.

In the modern world, doing nothing and relaxing may even seem strange and useless for some people.

Fortunately, I’ve been lucky enough to discover meditation after I’ve listened to many interviews by Tim Ferriss.

80% of the time, his podcast guests (all world-class in their fields) told Tim that they practiced meditation.

That’s when I decided to give it a shot.

How did I start?

By doing 5 minutes each morning just before starting to work.

Meditation experts agree that consistency is better than intensity.

After around 30 days, I noticed that my mind and general anxiety had improved significantly.

I then increased to 10-15 minutes.

Today, I still practice meditation for 15-20 minutes every day and even more sometimes.

Beside my daily run, it’s one of the habits that contribute the most to my well-being.

And you, what does your meditation practice look like?

I didn't get a chance to watch the video yet (I'll try to watch it tonight).

as for the quotes. that is a wonderfully beautiful collection of quotes. thanks for the link.

its so interesting how something as simple as a podcast or interview can influence your life so dramatically.

For me there had been a lot of on and off over the years.

The first time I had formally meditated... I was very young, and it was like a group guided meditation in one of my classes. After that, I would do it at random times over the next couple of years. It was always a little awkward for me, because I would sit in my room, lights off, with a small stereo in front of my on my bed playing the Star Wars soundtracks on CD's while my brothers and rest of the family were doing whatever in the house. But it was alright I guess but again that would be like once or twice a month if that. Maybe a few times a week over the course of a month when I was really into it.

When I found the Temple, I was in high school, (boarding school) and learned more techniques of meditation and took it more seriously. I would do it daily and pretty consistently for like a month, then stop for a month, then on and off, etc...

Over the next few years, the pattern kind of repeated itself I guess for the most part.

But recently,
I've started meditating regularly daily for the past few months, varying in length (5-45 minutes, averaging 15 or 20 minutes).
As I've mentioned in other posts, I have been meditating several times a day now, between 3-5 typically. So my schedule goes as follows (varies because of schedules and being a new father and what not)(Also leaving out a lot of things in the day, just a rough outline):

Day Starts:
Wake-up, meditate
*During Shower / Before or After Breakfast, meditate
Before or After Lunch, meditate
*At Work / Before or After Dinner, meditate
Bed time, meditate
Day Ends

Also, I've adopted meditation as part of my workouts, so whenever I finish a workout, I will have a meditation session as well.

I mean, they are all interchangeable and flexible, but that's a bit of a template to it.
